Ripening

Abstract

I began this painting in 2007 after my first child was born and put it aside uncompleted for many years. When my son, Archer, turned 13, and I was determined to return to this painting and completed it during the Pandemic Lock Down. Ripening a surrealistic landscape defining the growth and procreation of the natural world.

Description

In broad daylight, a full term nude pregnant sleeping woman is lying down by the field of ferns in the foreground. Appearing within the wild ferns, there are several mysterious hands reaching out. In the background are some forest trees and beyond is a meadow with a herd of white tailed deers.
