Lipreading is Enough

Abstract

This is a piece of resistance art, expressing the contradictions and unease of oralism. The hand is disconnected from the vision of total communication, total access, because she is required to speak using her mouth as a means of communicating. Colleen was bent on seeing equal access being granted to the Deaf community. It made her angry when she witnessed injustice because a Deaf person was not given the same rights as a hearing person.
