Rise

Abstract

My hard working hands tell my story. Like a mountain, the sign for standing up peaks above the tattoo, “Still I Rise” from Maya Angelou’s poem. There are two different skin tones that were caused by my genetic Waardenburg Syndrome that also caused me to be Deaf. The scar on my left arm resulted from the physical rigors of living on a farm. I learned that whenever I was hurt, physically, mentally or spiritually, it’s okay to fall down and get back up. “Rise” Like a mountain, the sign for standing up peaks above the tattoo, “Still I Rise” from Maya Angelou’s poem.
